ONLINE TRAINING - DISASTER SERVICES VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Earlier this year weather experts predicted that the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season
would be one of the busiest storm seasons the United States has ever seen, and the
development of Wilma in the Atlantic Ocean continues to prove them right. Hurricane
Wilma is the 21st named storm of the year, a record not seen since 1933.
In response to the growing need of trained volunteers, the American Red Cross now
has Orientation to the American Red Cross
and Introduction to Disaster Services available
as online training. Persons interested in taking these online courses can find links on
the West Shore Chapter webpage by visiting westshore.redcross.org. These two courses are
pre-requisites to additional classroom taught courses.
In addition, the West Shore Chapter will be offering the following classroom taught courses:
Mass Care: An Overview: offered Tuesday, November 1st starting at 9 AM in Scottville,
this course will instruct volunteers on basic principles of mass feeding, sheltering, and
bulk distribution of emergency items in a disaster.
Shelter Operations: will be offered on Tuesday, November 1st starting at 11 AM in Scottville.
Participants will learn how to set up and operate an emergency Red Cross shelter.
Family Services: Providing Emergency Assistance to Families," is an all-day class
scheduled for Friday, November 4th starting at 9 AM in Scottville. Attendees are encouraged
to bring a sack lunch.
