AMERICAN RED CROSS TO BENEFIT FROM WMOM'S 7TH ANNUAL LAKE JUMP
The West Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross is pleased to announce that they will be the beneficiary of proceeds raised
through WMOM's 7th Annual Lake Jump and is proud to recognize SERVPRO (Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration specialists) as a
corporate sponsor of this year's event.
The WMOM Lake Jump started as a hoax in 2000 - a dare between two of the station's disc jockeys - which generated a crowd of
about 50 spectators. In 2001, the Lake Jump became an event in the Harbor Master campaign and proceeds raised were donated
to the Region IV Women's Shelter. From that point forward, WMOM has donated annual Lake Jump proceeds to a charitable
organization and has had over 150 participants "jump in" the frigid waters of Lake Michigan for a good cause in recent years.
"It has come to our attention that our local Red Cross chapter's funding resources have been strained as a result of the 2005
hurricane season," said Patrick Lopeman, owner of WMOM. "WMOM challenges community members to help make the 7th Annual Lake
Jump a success by helping us to exceed our goal to raise $20,000 for the West Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross."
"We are very excited about the upcoming Lake Jump! The West Shore Chapter has enjoyed working with WMOM on previous
fundraising efforts and we are grateful for their continued support of our humanitarian mission," stated Vicki Chapman,
Executive Director for the West Shore Chapter. "March is also Red Cross Month - a time to celebrate our organization's
history of helping Americans prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies - and the Lake Jump offers us a wonderful
opportunity to enhance our efforts to raise public awareness of the many lifesaving programs and services we provide in
our community every day."
The 7th Annual Lake Jump will be held at Stearns Park at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, (weather permitting). So, get
ready to take the plunge - or nominate and sponsor a jumper - for a good cause! Listen to WMOM 102.7 FM for further details!
The West Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross is a United Way Member Agency.
